Was cruising around my saved links recently and popped by Furbish.
(the store of the I Suwannee blog)
I'm loving so many of these bits and pieces that I felt like a post was in order.
First off, I've been searching for the perfect fabric
to have my chippendale sofa re-upholstered in since the spring.
Then I saw this image.
And I fell in love.
(A note to Jamie revealed that this spotted fabric is indeed available for purchase,
however my upholsterer wants an outrageous cutting fee so we're still negotiating that one!)
But aren't you just dying over the mix of colour and pattern here?
This woman has a seriously good eye for the mix.
Want to see a bit more?
Of course you do - who wouldn't?!!
That's exactly the mix I'm craving these days -
clean lines and black and white balanced against a dose of color, wild pattern, organic pieces.
Are you feeling this one?
As for that sad chippendale sofa in my office...
with all this pricing drama,
I'm almost considering tackling the re-upholstery myself.
BUT... I've not done upholstery before, and am a little intimidated!
Know of any good tutorials out there?
Tips?
On the other hand...
I've just noticed that the Furbish one is up for sale, and it's quite reasonably priced....
hmmm...
WOW! I love the pops of colours, the mix of textures and especially all the wild amazing prints!
ReplyDeleteLittle Green Notebook has a 5 part tutorial, here the link to the first part: http://littlegreennotebook.blogspot.com/2011/06/reupholstering-chair-part-1-stripping.html
ReplyDeleteThis is not an easy fix version but would give you great results...
Good luck with whatever you decide! I would kill for any piece in that fabric! I can't wait to see What you decide. Her store is so delicious!! Nothing plain there!

Jamie is an evil genius of design. The genius part is of course self explanatory...why is she evil, you may ask? Because I would like to stay married, so buying *EVERYTHING* in her store is out of the question. So I blame her for my design addiction and jonesing for all those fabulous things at Furbish. DARN YOU, JAMIE!
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of Jamie and her store also! :)
ReplyDeletetotally feeling it. love that marbled silk!! xxx
ReplyDeleteLove your blog!

Wonderful! Awesome!
ReplyDeleteYou know I love a good diy project but I've tried upholstering and I see why those talented men and women charge what they do. It's a tricky thing to do yourself. The cutting fee irritates the hell out of me though. Is there someone else local you would trust. Can't wait to see if it works out for you...fingers crossed!
ReplyDeleteGo for it! You can do it! Or just go ahead and scoop up the furbish one before someone else does!!!
ReplyDeleteDELICIOUS!!!! would love to see your results if you go for it. i don't think anyone would judge you for going the sale route..... :)
