yay or nay: bedside desk
Between gigantic mattresses, a box spring and a bed frame, most of us are sleeping at a fair height these days. Bedside tables, for some reason, have not increased in height. So it seems natural that everyone has begun using console tables and dressers as nightstands. But something I'm seeing more and more is a desk tucked in neatly beside the bed.
Do you like this look? Would this function well as an actual workspace in a small home? Could you mix business and rest? I think I'd be staring at my files instead on sleeping! It would work nicely as a dressing table, though..... what do you think - yay or nay?

I like it! If you have the space it works great...easy access, I can blog and hop right into bed :)
ReplyDeleteI like it as a dressing table, but never as an actual desk unless I was living is a small place where every inch is needed.
ReplyDeleteYay! as long as it's kept neat and in a smaller room. I actually think it would look funny in a large bedroom.

I love this idea! However, I think I would use it as a dressing table instead of a "working" desk. I like to draw the line somewhere :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday, Anne-Marie!

I like the look of it and think it's perfect for a dressing table. I wouldn't use it as a work space though - it would look much too messy. :)
ReplyDeleteI like the idea. My existing bedside table ( a little Japanese cabinet) looked out of scale after we got a new mattress for our bed last year. I ended up placing my bedside lamp on some books to raise it up to the correct height for reading. Replacing the cabinet with a small desk is a much more elegant solution.
ReplyDeleteI love the look (and good point about the increase height in mattresses) but I probably wouldn't use it as a workspace. I think I would have a lamp, books, flowers etc.

It's a pretty look, but I'd want it to be used as a makeup vanity vs an actual desk. Who wants to see their phone bill when they're heading to bed?
ReplyDeleteLOVE bedside desks! I also like them at the foot of the bed, with a small chair tucked in.
ReplyDeleteI loe this look and you have chosen lovely examples. I would certainly hide the laptop and files each night but a great space saver.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, romantic and useful space. Thank you for sharing. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI love the look, but it would be an absolute disaster for me functionally. I'd hate to see my desk clutter first and last thing every day!
ReplyDeleteI think it is great and recommend it especially if people are limited on space and need to get double usage out of what space they do have. I am bored to death with the routine bedside table and always try to steer away from it. Thanks for this,I love it.
ReplyDeleteI like that you always have us thinking Anne-Marie! I would have to say no to a bedside desk because rest and work do not go together for me. BUT, if I was really short on space, I could gladly settle for something like in the 7th image ;)
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
Well, you know I'm a yay (re: G's room). I think it's perfect for kids' rooms and guest rooms...I'm not sure I would want it for myself, though. For the same reasons you mentioned. But when space is at a premium, it's a great alternative for any room! ox
