Art and steam don't mix.
I'm usually reluctant to put framed art or canvasses in the bathroom,
and definitely think twice before placing it above the tub or near the shower.
But it LOOKS so good :)
What do you think?
Are you daring, precariously hanging your art near the bath?!!
(ooooh, the dangerous lives we lead :)
Is it a yay or a nay?

They do look great but I'd be too scared to put something special there in case it got ruined!

Canvasses or frames in bathrooms is a MUST.
Oh yes please...
Art anywhere is a good thing if you ask me ♥
I havent' done it yet...but man oh man, it looks great!
It's a yes from me - I have both oils and paper under glass in the bathroom (the oils right over the bath) and they have never come to any harm at all.
Artwork in the bathroom is like adding a small piece of furniture. It makes it feel less clinical and more like any other room in the house.
Great post, Anne-Marie!

Love the thought! Art is far more personal. I have an aversion to bathrooms that are tiled to death.
It does look good! Maybe this is a good spot for canvases instead of framed paper prints :)
I wouldn`t put prints or watercolours, or anything too precious.
I don`t really like to put `personal` images in public areas of the home, so family pictures are my go to art for the bathroom walls.
I`m just now getting around to choosing something for our bathroom re-do :)
I think Yay, it's really nice and can add a personal touch and avoid sterility. But as others have mentioned, precious pieces that cannot be protected or sealed are to be avoided. Moisture can do bad things to art.
I have art in all my bathrooms, but nothing super valuable. Great spot for inexpensive photo editions or DIY art in Target or Ikea frames.
I was just reading in the design sponge book that Grace Bonney has an original oil painting over her stove--and has to take it down every time she cooks. That would be WAY too high maintenance for me (but then, I cook 2-3 times a day, and she says she cooks every other day, so that's a big difference!)
It's yay for me and these photos show just how art livens up the bathroom.
I love it. I only put things that if they did get damaged it would not hurt too much. I added photo prints of my honeymoon to our bath. I've also heard of adding framed fabric for pattern and colour.
I think it looks fantastic, but I'd be afraid of ruining anything too precious. Plus in my postage stamp sized bathrooms there really isn't any wall space for art.
Wow, I'm seriously outvoted on this one but it's a nay for me. I like art beside or across from the sink but to me it looks weird above the bathtub.
I LOVE art in the bathroom, but I'm also scared it will be ruined. I found a beautiful painting from TJMaxx that's in our bathroom now--I love it, but wouldn't be terribly upset if the steam totally ruined it. It has been there for about two years and so far, so good!
LOVELY. what great inspiration photos! I love the idea...but am also scared of "ruining" art with steam! I have a photo up in a shadow box frame and it has lasted far better than I expected.
Definitely "yay"! I have artwork in all my bathrooms... it looks great and adds so much! Especially since a lot of bathrooms are so stark and white. Thanks for sharing!
I have to put stuff in every room in my house...it's a compulsion (c: It looks so awesome above those gorgeous tubs! I don't think I'd be brave enough for that one, though!
Yay, yay, yay, I LOVE this look - I love a bathroom that looks more like a regular room - perfection!! ;-))
Definitely yay! I love that last shot. I always love huge photos.
Yay for me! Love image #2!! xo
EEEK! I want to screech nooooo, but they look so wonderful in there.
As an artist, I know the "issues" concerning art in steamy/high temperature rooms. When I sell a piece of art, my care instructions recommend artworks are not placed in bathrooms or vulnerable positions such as above a fireplace etc (if oils), hOwEvEr...I mean...that is my professional advice.
For aesthetics and my love of design...I have my own art works in my bathrooms ; ) I guess, my advice is to try to keep the works behind glass, so works on paper are best for this and who doesn't love a gorgeous frame anyhow?!
Happy art hanging : )

I live on the wild side and do hang pictures and one illustration in our bathroom. But I always keep the bathroom door open to keep out the steam. x
Absolutely. We have art in our bathrooms and I really love seeing it everyday. Whether we realize it or not, we humans spend a lot of time each day in the bathroom, so having something beautiful to gaze at is a must.
i know what you mean darl, i've always been a bit hesitant to put art in a bathroom - but it does, it just looks so essential. xxx
