fantastic to put your feet up on...
but drinks balance precariously atop a tray...
can be very bulky, visually.
Coffee Tables.
shins and toes beg to be bruised every time you venture round...
but that stack of books and little pot of flowers look so, so pretty :)

Which one would grace your dream living room?

I'm an ottoman girl! I just bought an as-is IKEA coffee table that I'm upholstering in a similar ikat-dot fabric to this West Elm ottoman: http://bit.ly/umyUOT. My attraction is both comfort and looks--I can't resist the chance to add another fabric to the room.
I have a great dark leather tufted ottoman (rectangular), but I'm looking for a round coffee table to break up the lines of the dark sectional and straight TV unit. The ottoman has been great though with the little kids (no coffee table scars).
I'm loving your option of both -mhhh might have to rethink my plans ;)
with a little one around I say - ottoman. But I can't wait for her to grow up a bit more so I can get a Y leg coffee table with a marble top.
Also, in a more formal living room I'd go for a coffee table. In a family room with a TV and toys galore, I would definitely lean more towards an ottoman.
I think they each have a purpose. NO need to choose! :) Love them both.
Oh the options for both are fabulous! O have a Glass and brass table so I might be able to do something like this!
sort of the best of both worlds: I upholstered a coffee table!
I've been dying to switch back to a coffee table but with TV watching habits & small space living it just wouldn't make sense ... I do have an ultra firm ottoman at the same height as my sofa (so it extends like a chaise lounge) that I can put a big tray on. But it doesn't make my heart go pitter patter like a coffee table would :(
We have a massive coffee table in our family room and then a large fabric ottoman in the rec room...with the boys in this home I prefer the table, for some reason they think the ottoman is a trampoline or launching pad, LOL!
Usually I"m very decisive but in this case I love them both. I do love a giant square ottoman as a coffee table but those coffee tables you posted are fabulous. Hmmm!
Right now I have a coffe table, but I'm planning the living room at my new flat and I think I will have both, can't decide
I'm a table girl but i do think ottomans are great!
ohh..umm...coffee table!! i love how ottoman's look (especially when tufted), but coffee tables just seem so much more practical (for me anyway!)
ll i certainly want it all darl - all the images you've shown are gorgeous!! xx
I use to have a wood and leather top ottoman, but switched to a glass and gold coffee table recently. I love the how much bigger the room looks with the coffee table. But my husband and son really want the other one back to put their feet on. I'm going for the both worlds now! I would never have thought to do that. Now I just have to find a small ottoman to put under the table.
I have too many scars on my shins from invisible glass top and blend into the floor coffee tables. Then again, I do tend to be a bit clumsy.
After seeing your beautiful images of ottomans I'm convinced... vote one Ottoman!!
Jx
I've always been a table gal, but if it was a large ottoman that was sturdy I think I could be swayed! ALthough we tend to spill a lot (feet up on the table I guess??) so it's nice being able to wipe the coffee table instead of stressing about cleaning fabric...
This was the dilemma I had when we were shopping for this place. And while I love all of the great coffee tables I was finding, I just had to be realistic and consider our lifestyle more than looks. Luckily I found a pretty tufted linen ottoman large enough to hold a big tray off to one side that holds those pretty flowers and a couple of books. And we're both happy to have a oft spot to put up our feet. :)
I say the best of both worlds if your space is large enough to accomodate multiple pieces.
Tables for sure. I think it is the visual weight of ottomans that turn me off although I have seen a few leggy options that I could be talked into.
I'm trying to decide between Lucite and glass at the moment in my home.
I want it all! In a perfect world, maybe a table in the more formal living room and an ottoman wherever the television is. Alas, my formal living room is where the tv is and I have ottomans, but a girl can dream!
The choices are endless. That is where the fun lies. The dilemma of choosing this or that...okay...perhaps I need them both! I just love that feeling. I have ottomans in my bedroom and two in the family room...I have coffee tables everywhere else. Even outside! Love this post. The images are spectacular.

In my living room, there is only a table. And you'd better not put your feet on it! In my den/family room, there's a big table and several ottomans too. Take you pick.
traditionally, i'm a table girl. but now that i have 2 rooms to furnish, i'm not above one of each! ox
I like to say thanks for the information like coffee table..
