the weekend: finds and a purge

have been wanting one of these tripod floor lamps forever.....

retail price: $ 500.00
down the street price: $5.00

I love yard sales :)

Today we are tackling the playroom,
which has morphed from this

to this.

The darlings won't even go in to this black hole of chaos any more.
Don't they look thrilled to bits to be in here, sorting?!!

We've finally reached the point where they are over
barbies, transformers, bratz dolls, bakugons, littlest pet shop, hot wheels, etc...

It's time for a bit of a purge.

By the end of the weekend they will both have one rubbermaid bin filled with their faves,
and the rest is being given away.

It's a little bittersweet, because they are growing up,
but more sweet than bitter :)

What are you up to?

Oh the plastic madness! You'd wish that etsy would start selling cute knitted plastic toy covers. Good luck with the sorting!

Those plastic toys do tend to take over. We just had a big purge, too. Good luck with the sorting & organizing.

Good luck with the massive task of getting your children to select only their favourites. I have a crawl space full of precious toys my 26-year-old daughter couldn't part with!

Mind you, as the step-grandmother of 5 adorable kiddlets, I highly recommend that you hang on to any Playmobil toys, regardless of your kids' opinions. Those toys have been lifesavers whenever my grandkids came to visit.

Love the new lamp! Lucky (and resourceful) you!

When ever I got my elder children to assist with a purge, I ended up with an armful of broken throw-aways and all the rest to keep. I found it easier to cull myself, secretly, and 'hide' for 6 months, What wasn't missed when to charity. Of course I kept some favs... and at 21, (nearly 22)my eldest daughter has re-discovered Beanie bears and Barbies and wants to display her treasures!(I've got horrible evidence of her hoarding on my blog!)And Furby has awoken!!!After 12 years sleep!!! AAAAHHHHH!!!!!

I love that top photo and that lamp!! 5 bucks, killing me here. I laughed when I saw your kids in that last photo. Haha! Ah yes, we are still in the midst of plastic madness.. You're right, it is more sweet than bitter when their tastes changes (for the better I hope!) and they (gulp!) grow up. Though I'm pretty sure that that 1 rubbermaid bin will grow to 2 and more sure enough. ;p hehe..
