The Sofa: Decked Out

We've just sold our teak dining set and loungers
and replaced them with some cast aluminum and marble pieces.
 (incredibly heavy!
I kept reminding D. they would never blow over
as he and three other guys huffed and puffed them home :)

I'd show you pics but they are still boxed and living in the garage
as we are planning a deck overhaul this year...
show you once it's done!

Teak used to be what you bought if your wanted decent quality outdoor furniture,
but I'm not a fan of the weathered grey look and oiling them twice a year was becoming tedious...
The new stuff was an incredible deal at Costco, zero maintenance and ultra comfortable.
But if money was no object I may have done a little more shopping around.

I'm blown away by what can live outdoors these days...

West Elm does such a great job of merchandising -
these pics leave me longing....

What I am seeing more and more is a trend towards full scale sofas outdoors....
this almost looks like something you would find in a living room..

This year's clever Catalina series from Carte and Barrel is slipcovered!
Fantastic idea, no?

Never one to be outdone, Restoration Hardware has created a slipcovered, outdoor version
of their current signature style seating to the outdoors, as well.
I know that between the gangs of popsicle toting scoundrels and muddy pups that roam our yard
I'd be cleaning these covers a little too often here,
but a girl can dream :)

What are you lounging on this summer?

How exciting to get new outdoor furniture. Gotta love Costco. :-) I would take anything you've featured here. Although it's hard to wrap my head around a full scale sofa, or even cushions, because Michigan has such wet and not so warm summers.

Have a great day!

I agree with you that we can just about live outdoors with all the fine furnishings. Great post!

With our rainy weather here those sofas would be a haven for mildew! I am lounging on my wrought iron patio set from Walmart that we got on clearance 7 years ago. It needs new cushions and an umbrella. I think we will make do unless I find a steal of a deal. I am tempted to recover the cushions. I found amazing outdoor fabric with a Moroccan style pattern!

Wow....outdoor living is suddenly looking like my living room! I cant' believe what they are doing for outdoors...some of it is almost too "indoorsy" looking for my taste but some of it is drop dead gorgeous...you cited many stunning examples. Outdoor living is so big right now.....think it also depends on where you live and how much of they year you get to spend outdoors, here in the Northeast we get to spend about 8 months if we are lucky in the outdoors. So I like to make the outdoors really special and its one of my favorite ways to entertain, a causal dinner by candlelight out on a patio sitting in great looking patio furniture....love it!

Gorgeous!! I do still err on the side of caution with this though -- I feel like it is made for arizona or california or someplace that doesn't get a lot of rain! We have decidedly less luxurious outdoor furniture, but it definitely works for us. looking forward to the afters of your yard!

Slipcovered sofas outside? Oh, no!!!!! I have a slipcovered sofa and two slipcovered chairs and ottomans that i patrol regularly with my family.
i could not take the stress of this outside. I would definitely have to self-medicate. :)
I have to admit when I saw the RH catalog -- or source book is what they call it now -- I did have a moment that I did think, Could I? :)

That first pic - GET OUT (insane kind of gorgeous!)

I know, the pickin's among the outdoor furniture set just keep getting better. Those slipped ones from RH...well, rather perfect.

Anne Marie, all of the options are incredible! Although like some of the other readers I don't know if I could go with a full scale sofa on my patio, it might take me awhile to get used to the look (unless maybe it was under a cover).

Sadly this will never be a reality in Vancouver. Even during the summer months we get way too much rain for all those cushions. They are gorgeous though:)

Oh how I wish I had a rooftop in the city to decorate with the West Elm furniture! Lovely!

These pieces are definitely gorgeous. I, for one, want to have one of these sets in my living room. :-) But of all these beautiful sets, the fifth one caught my eye. It definitely reminds of the sun, the sand and the beach. :-)
