yay or nay: hang a hammock...inside!

Do any of you watch Survivor? It's a guilty pleasure 'round here, with D., I  and the kids plopping ourselves down in front of the idiot box every week to watch as people proclaim their values morally superior and then scheme the demise of every ally they have :) Why am I mentioning this? This season there is a character this season named "Tarzan" (yup, he really calls himself that), who refuses to discuss his strategy each week, saying cryptically, "the game is afoot". He's a bit of an odd duck, but the phrase has stuck with me.

Spring is afoot here. The air smells differently then it did a week ago. I'm dreaming of sunshine, and lemonade, and starry evenings with friends. And hammocks. Reading books, snuggles with the darlings and afternoon  naps in hammocks.... But really, why only enjoy this a few months of the year? These people bucked tradition and installed hammocks in their homes - SO wish I had the space for this!

SO wish I had the space to do this! I especially like the black hammock hung in that nook off the room containing nothing but a piano. That room lives in my dream home, lol.  What do you think of this? Is it something you would ever do?

I think I would try this! I always like having a nice place to read with a good book in my hands.

I hung a hot pink one in my teenager daughter's room in the corner. Her friends thought it was awesome - so awesome, in fact, that they all got on it at once and it tore out of the ceiling. Not so awesome after all.

I think it would be cute in a sun porch! Love Survivor - luckily we get that here in Dubai :)

Yay! for indoor hammocks. Nice inspiring collection here Anne-Marie. I like the black one in the nook best too. Here's a link to another indoor hammock - nothing special, but I just pinned it recently so it was fresh in my mind :)

I love Survivor. Tarzan is an odd duck- every time Jeff questions him I laugh at that response.
A hammock in my house would last about 5 minutes!

I would definitely have a hammock somewhere in my house if I had the space like in the photos. Very relaxing :-) Great post!

For me a hammock represents outside relaxing at the cottage. I don't know if it would have the same sensation indoors. And YES, I am also guilty of spending an hour each week watching the plotting and scheming of Survivor.

We hung a swing hammock in the kids' play room. They love it.

I absolutely love Survivor too. A favourite show of mine. As for the hammock - I have a spot picked out for twin hammocks in the new home. Can not wait! Lovely images as usual...you always post the most beautiful pictures.

I don't watch Survivor, unless my brother is on it (Tyson --- you probably hated him ;), but I could see myself getting into it. My daughter also just broke her arm falling out of our hammock two days ago :(. Love them otherwise!

I firmly believe a hammock can suit any place you desire it to be!  I live in Colorado, but like to "get my hammock on" whenever the mood strikes (so...often). So, for me, having one inside was a no-brainer.

For years I had a large, "family-sized" (oversized double) hammock hung in a corner of my living room.  I used very heavy-duty eye hooks set into the wall studs (this is essential).  My autistic son would sit and swing in it (quite enthusiastically, mind you) for hours and it never once budged or seemed less-than sturdy.  (I also set up a "permanent" rope attachment between a couple patio posts for those beautiful Colorado summer nights and slept outside on occasion.)

In my living room, next to my hammock, I situated an adjustable lamp and a small bookcase; I placed a Turkish kilim (yurt carpet) underneath.  The end result was classy-yet-bohemian and people were astonished at how well it suited the room--especially considering my home was a middle class 50s brick ranch (although those that know me weren't the least bit surprised at my choice... :-P ).

Although I would occasionally use it for my nighttime slumber (great on hot nights), I found my hammock most suitable (for my purposes)  for reading, meditating, naps  and snuggling.

I wish I had space for it in my new place. I really miss having it to chillax in (which is how it came to be that I found your blog post, BTW [I'm desperately hoping to sort out a way to hang my travel hammock on my tiny patio]).

Keep swingin' and don't let the monkeys get the best of you! Cheers!
